1 Corintios 13
1 Si hablo en *lenguas *humanas y angelicales, pero no tengo amor, no soy más que un metal que resuena o un platillo que hace ruido.2 Si tengo el don de profecía y entiendo todos los *misterios y poseo todo conocimiento, y si tengo una fe que logra trasladar montañas, pero me falta el amor, no soy nada.3 Si reparto entre los pobres todo lo que poseo, y si entrego mi cuerpo para que lo consuman las llamas,[a] pero no tengo amor, nada gano con eso.
4 El amor es paciente, es bondadoso. El amor no es envidioso ni jactancioso ni orgulloso.5 No se comporta con rudeza, no es egoísta, no se enoja fácilmente, no guarda rencor.6 El amor no se deleita en la maldad sino que se regocija con la verdad.7 Todo lo disculpa, todo lo cree, todo lo espera, todo lo soporta.
8 El amor jamás se extingue, mientras que el don de profecía cesará, el de lenguas será silenciado y el de conocimiento desaparecerá.9 Porque conocemos y profetizamos de manera imperfecta;10 pero cuando llegue lo perfecto, lo imperfecto desaparecerá.11 Cuando yo era niño, hablaba como niño, pensaba como niño, razonaba como niño; cuando llegué a ser adulto, dejé atrás las cosas de niño.12 Ahora vemos de manera indirecta y velada, como en un espejo; pero entonces veremos cara a cara. Ahora conozco de manera imperfecta, pero entonces conoceré tal y como soy conocido.
13 Ahora, pues, permanecen estas tres virtudes: la fe, la esperanza y el amor. Pero la más excelente de ellas es el amor.

Love
1If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,[b] but have not love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

12 Hermanos, yo me he identificado con ustedes. Les suplico que ahora se identifiquen conmigo. No es que me hayan ofendido en algo.13 Como bien saben, la primera vez que les prediqué el *evangelio fue debido a una enfermedad,14 y aunque ésta fue una *prueba para ustedes, no me trataron con desprecio ni desdén. Al contrario, me recibieron como a un ángel de Dios, como si se tratara de Cristo Jesús.15 Pues bien, ¿qué pasó con todo ese entusiasmo? Me consta que, de haberles sido posible, se habrían sacado los ojos para dármelos.16 ¡Y ahora resulta que por decirles la verdad me he vuelto su enemigo!
17 Esos que muestran mucho interés por ganárselos a ustedes no abrigan buenas intenciones. Lo que quieren es alejarlos de nosotros para que ustedes se entreguen a ellos.18 Está bien mostrar interés, con tal de que ese interés sea bien intencionado y constante, y que no se manifieste sólo cuando yo estoy con ustedes.19 Queridos hijos, por quienes vuelvo a sufrir dolores de parto hasta que Cristo sea formado en ustedes,20 ¡cómo quisiera estar ahora con ustedes y hablarles de otra manera, porque lo que están haciendo me tiene perplejo!

You have done me no wrong. 13As you know, it was because of an illness that I first preached the gospel to you. 14Even though my illness was a trial to you, you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself. 15What has happened to all your joy? I can testify that, if you could have done so, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me. 16Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?
17Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no good. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may be zealous for them. 18It is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good, and to be so always and not just when I am with you. 19My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you, 20how I wish I could be with you now and change my tone, because I am perplexed about you!

24 »Nadie puede servir a dos señores, pues menospreciará a uno y amará al otro, o querrá mucho a uno y despreciará al otro. No se puede servir a la vez a Dios y a las riquezas.
De nada sirve preocuparse
(A) 25 »Por eso les digo: No se preocupen por su *vida, qué comerán o beberán; ni por su cuerpo, cómo se vestirán. ¿No tiene la vida más valor que la comida, y el cuerpo más que la ropa?26 Fíjense en las aves del cielo: no siembran ni cosechan ni almacenan en graneros; sin embargo, el Padre celestial las alimenta. ¿No valen ustedes mucho más que ellas?27 ¿Quién de ustedes, por mucho que se preocupe, puede añadir una sola hora al curso de su vida?[a]
28 »¿Y por qué se preocupan por la ropa? Observen cómo crecen los lirios del campo. No trabajan ni hilan;29 sin embargo, les digo que ni siquiera Salomón, con todo su esplendor, se vestía como uno de ellos.30 Si así viste Dios a la hierba que hoy está en el campo y mañana es arrojada al horno, ¿no hará mucho más por ustedes, gente de poca fe?31 Así que no se preocupen diciendo: "¿Qué comeremos?" o "¿Qué beberemos?" o "¿Con qué nos vestiremos?" 32 Porque los *paganos andan tras todas estas cosas, y el Padre celestial sabe que ustedes las necesitan.33 Más bien, busquen primeramente el reino de Dios y su justicia, y todas estas cosas les serán añadidas.34 Por lo tanto, no se angustien por el mañana, el cual tendrá sus propios afanes. Cada día tiene ya sus problemas.

8 Cuando lo tomó, los cuatro seres vivientes y los veinticuatro ancianos se postraron delante del Cordero. Cada uno tenía un arpa y copas de oro llenas de incienso, que son las oraciones del *pueblo de Dios.9 Y entonaban este nuevo cántico:
«Digno eres de recibir el rollo escrito
y de romper sus sellos,
porque fuiste sacrificado,
y con tu sangre compraste para Dios
gente de toda raza, lengua, pueblo y nación.
10 De ellos hiciste un reino;
los hiciste sacerdotes al servicio de nuestro Dios,
y reinarán sobre la tierra.»

10You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth."
11Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12In a loud voice they sang:
"Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!"
13Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing:
"To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,

Jesús denuncia a los fariseos y a los maestros de la ley
(A) (B) 1 Después de esto, Jesús dijo a la gente y a sus discípulos:2 «Los *maestros de la ley y los fariseos tienen la responsabilidad de interpretar a Moisés.[a]3 Así que ustedes deben obedecerlos y hacer todo lo que les digan. Pero no hagan lo que hacen ellos, porque no practican lo que predican.4 Atan cargas pesadas y las ponen sobre la espalda de los demás, pero ellos mismos no están dispuestos a mover ni un dedo para levantarlas.
5 »Todo lo hacen para que la gente los vea: Usan filacterias grandes y adornan sus ropas con borlas vistosas;[b]6 se mueren por el lugar de honor en los banquetes y los primeros asientos en las sinagogas,7 y porque la gente los salude en las plazas y los llame "Rabí" .
8 »Pero no permitan que a ustedes se les llame "Rabí" , porque tienen un solo Maestro y todos ustedes son hermanos.9 Y no llamen "padre" a nadie en la tierra, porque ustedes tienen un solo Padre, y él está en el cielo.10 Ni permitan que los llamen "maestro" , porque tienen un solo Maestro, el *Cristo.11 El más importante entre ustedes será siervo de los demás.12 Porque el que a sí mismo se enaltece será humillado, y el que se humilla será enaltecido.
13 »¡Ay de ustedes, maestros de la ley y fariseos, *hipócritas! Les cierran a los demás el reino de los cielos, y ni entran ustedes ni dejan entrar a los que intentan hacerlo.[c]
15 »¡Ay de ustedes, maestros de la ley y fariseos, hipócritas! Recorren tierra y mar para ganar un solo adepto, y cuando lo han logrado lo hacen dos veces más merecedor del infierno[d] que ustedes.

Me faltaría tiempo para hablar de Gedeón, Barac, Sansón, Jefté, David, Samuel y los profetas,33 los cuales por la fe conquistaron reinos, hicieron justicia y alcanzaron lo prometido; cerraron bocas de leones,34 apagaron la furia de las llamas y escaparon del filo de la espada; sacaron fuerzas de flaqueza; se mostraron valientes en la guerra y pusieron en fuga a ejércitos extranjeros.35 Hubo mujeres que por la resurrección recobraron a sus muertos. Otros, en cambio, fueron muertos a golpes, pues para alcanzar una mejor resurrección no aceptaron que los pusieran en libertad.36 Otros sufrieron la prueba de burlas y azotes, e incluso de cadenas y cárceles.37 Fueron apedreados,[a] aserrados por la mitad, asesinados a filo de espada. Anduvieron fugitivos de aquí para allá, cubiertos de pieles de oveja y de cabra, pasando necesidades, afligidos y maltratados.38 ¡El mundo no merecía gente así! Anduvieron sin rumbo por desiertos y montañas, por cuevas y cavernas.

5 —Maestro, hemos estado trabajando duro toda la noche y no hemos pescado nada —le contestó Simón—. Pero como tú me lo mandas, echaré las redes.
6 Así lo hicieron, y recogieron una cantidad tan grande de peces que las redes se les rompían.7 Entonces llamaron por señas a sus compañeros de la otra barca para que los ayudaran. Ellos se acercaron y llenaron tanto las dos barcas que comenzaron a hundirse.

Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
4When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water, and let down[b] the nets for a catch."
5Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets."
6When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
8When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus' knees and said, "Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!" 9For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon's partners.
Then Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch men." 11So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

Así era antes de que el Señor destruyera a Sodoma y a Gomorra.11 Entonces Lot escogió para sí todo el valle del Jordán, y partió hacia el oriente. Fue así como Abram y Lot se separaron.12 Abram se quedó a vivir en la tierra de Canaán, mientras que Lot se fue a vivir entre las ciudades del valle, estableciendo su campamento cerca de la ciudad de Sodoma.13 Los habitantes de Sodoma eran malvados y cometían muy graves pecados contra el Señor.

1 Por la ternura y la bondad de Cristo, yo, Pablo, apelo a ustedes personalmente; yo mismo que, según dicen, soy tímido cuando me encuentro cara a cara con ustedes pero atrevido cuando estoy lejos.2 Les ruego que cuando vaya no tenga que ser tan atrevido como me he propuesto ser con algunos que opinan que vivimos según criterios meramente *humanos,3 pues aunque vivimos en el *mundo, no libramos batallas como lo hace el mundo.4 Las armas con que luchamos no son del mundo, sino que tienen el poder divino para derribar fortalezas.5 Destruimos argumentos y toda altivez que se levanta contra el conocimiento de Dios, y llevamos cautivo todo pensamiento para que se someta a Cristo.6 Y estamos dispuestos a castigar cualquier acto de desobediencia una vez que yo pueda contar con la completa obediencia de ustedes.

On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.
7You are looking only on the surface of things.[a] If anyone is confident that he belongs to Christ, he should consider again that we belong to Christ just as much as he. 8For even if I boast somewhat freely about the authority the Lord gave us for building you up rather than pulling you down, I will not be ashamed of it. 9I do not want to seem to be trying to frighten you with my letters. 10For some say, "His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing." 11Such people should realize that what we are in our letters when we are absent, we will be in our actions when we are present.

3 Porque la *circuncisión somos nosotros, los que por medio del Espíritu de Dios adoramos, nos *enorgullecemos en Cristo Jesús y no ponemos nuestra confianza en esfuerzos *humanos.4 Yo mismo tengo motivos para tal confianza. Si cualquier otro cree tener motivos para confiar en esfuerzos humanos, yo más:5 circuncidado al octavo día, del pueblo de Israel, de la tribu de Benjamín, hebreo de pura cepa; en cuanto a la interpretación de la ley, *fariseo;6 en cuanto al celo, perseguidor de la iglesia; en cuanto a la justicia que la ley exige, intachable.

22 —No saben lo que están pidiendo —les replicó Jesús—. ¿Pueden acaso beber el trago amargo de la copa que yo voy a beber?
—Sí, podemos.
23 —Ciertamente beberán de mi copa —les dijo Jesús—, pero el sentarse a mi derecha o a mi izquierda no me corresponde concederlo. Eso ya lo ha decidido[b] mi Padre.
24 Cuando lo oyeron los otros diez, se indignaron contra los dos hermanos.25 Jesús los llamó y les dijo:

3 —Ananías —le reclamó Pedro—, ¿cómo es posible que Satanás haya llenado tu corazón para que le mintieras al Espíritu Santo y te quedaras con parte del dinero que recibiste por el terreno?4 ¿Acaso no era tuyo antes de venderlo? Y una vez vendido, ¿no estaba el dinero en tu poder? ¿Cómo se te ocurrió hacer esto? ¡No has mentido a los hombres sino a Dios!
5 Al oír estas palabras, Ananías cayó muerto. Y un gran temor se apoderó de todos los que se enteraron de lo sucedido.6 Entonces se acercaron los más jóvenes, envolvieron el cuerpo, se lo llevaron y le dieron sepultura.

3Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God."
5When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. 6Then the young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.

10At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.

Ananias and Sapphira
1Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2With his wife's full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles' feet.
3Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God."
5When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. 6Then the young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.

3 Alabado sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Padre misericordioso y Dios de toda consolación,4 quien nos consuela en todas nuestras tribulaciones para que con el mismo consuelo que de Dios hemos recibido, también nosotros podamos consolar a todos los que sufren.5 Pues así como participamos abundantemente en los sufrimientos de Cristo, así también por medio de él tenemos abundante consuelo.6 Si sufrimos, es para que ustedes tengan consuelo y salvación; y si somos consolados, es para que ustedes tengan el consuelo que los ayude a soportar con paciencia los mismos sufrimientos que nosotros padecemos.7 Firme es la esperanza que tenemos en cuanto a ustedes, porque sabemos que así como participan de nuestros sufrimientos, así también participan de nuestro consuelo.

Pero eso sucedió para que no confiáramos en nosotros mismos sino en Dios, que resucita a los muertos.10 Él nos libró y nos librará de tal peligro de muerte. En él tenemos puesta nuestra esperanza, y él seguirá librándonos.11 Mientras tanto, ustedes nos ayudan orando por nosotros. —Este hombre merece que le concedas lo que te pide:5 aprecia tanto a nuestra nación, que nos ha construido una sinagoga.
6 Así que Jesús fue con ellos. No estaba lejos de la casa cuando el centurión mandó unos amigos a decirle:
—Señor, no te tomes tanta molestia, pues no merezco que entres bajo mi techo.7 Por eso ni siquiera me atreví a presentarme ante ti. Pero con una sola palabra que digas, quedará sano mi siervo.8 Yo mismo obedezco órdenes superiores y, además, tengo soldados bajo mi autoridad. Le digo a uno: "Ve" , y va, y al otro: "Ven" , y viene. 1When Jesus had finished saying all this in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. 2There a centurion's servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. 3The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, "This man deserves to have you do this, 5because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue." 6So Jesus went with them.
He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: "Lord, don't trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. 7That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. 8For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."
9When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, "I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel." 10Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.

Sin embargo, sigo adelante esperando alcanzar aquello para lo cual Cristo Jesús me alcanzó a mí.13 Hermanos, no pienso que yo mismo lo haya logrado ya. Más bien, una cosa hago: olvidando lo que queda atrás y esforzándome por alcanzar lo que está delante,14 sigo avanzando hacia la meta para ganar el premio que Dios ofrece mediante su llamamiento celestial en Cristo Jesús.
15 Así que, ¡escuchen los perfectos! Todos debemos[a] tener este modo de pensar. Y si en algo piensan de forma diferente, Dios les hará ver esto también.16 En todo caso, vivamos de acuerdo con lo que ya hemos alcanzado.[b]
17 Hermanos, sigan todos mi ejemplo, y fíjense en los que se comportan conforme al modelo que les hemos dado.18 Como les he dicho a menudo, y ahora lo repito hasta con lágrimas, muchos se comportan como enemigos de la cruz de Cristo.19 Su destino es la destrucción, adoran al dios de sus propios deseos[c] y se enorgullecen de lo que es su vergüenza. Philippians 3:12-21 (New International Version)
Pressing on Toward the Goal
12Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
15All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. 16Only let us live up to what we have already attained.
17Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you. 18For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things. 20But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
